Summer 2010
4x18 Watercolors
2 of 18 from my Balloons, Hot Air Balloons, and Chinese Lanterns series.

Second piece of my watercolor series themed balloons, hot air balloons, and Chinese lanterns. I used silhouettes a lot in this series, mostly because I love balloons' see-through-ness when the light is behind them. I think this one in particular packs the most meaning in it though, because of the lone figure in a big field with the grass disappearing near the edge...

I think this is my favorite watercolor piece.
There's a high contrast between light and dark, so the field and figure stand out strongly against the sky. The sun provides just an accent of yellow, and it makes the figure stand out even more because of the contrast against the cool colors. I also like how the image fades out to one end.
The composition itself is just great. Simple, yet striking.

Man.. or you are a talented art student, or you've already got work in the sector.... this looks really professional.
And sellable, but that's positive, because to me, it's because there is this right mix of aesthetics and feeling that makes today's concept of art.

Forgive my rambling :p I'm trying to kill the habit but....

Wow, thank you very much for this comment! I was an art student for a while, but now I'm in school to become an art teacher. The pieces in this series of watercolors are actually the first in my career that I feel confident trying to sell, so it means a lot that you feel the same way :thanks: I'm trying to sell the originals and prints of the originals

Ah, nice to hear a fine artist wanting to become a teacher. Having someone to look up to, especially when being young, is a good motivation and generates ambition :) I wish you good luck with the selling, it's never easy, even if you're good.
