Owning Cinnamon really zeroed me in on the mustelidae family (otters, badgers, wolverines, ferrets) for the Deru warrior steeds. Because that family is fearless and overconfident, but also inquisitive and social. And although I wanted them to strongly resemble wolverines, I slimmed the body a bit and also threw in a more ferret-y neck and face (the better to reach down and chomp enemies~).

While the natural hunting behavior and personality of the warler make it shine on the battlefield, those same qualities make it extremely hard to train. Combined with their often quirky and intelligent personalities, the Deru attitude holds that warlers are not tame animals but fellow warriors. As such, they share the same ranks and honors in the military as their human counterparts.

Actually, you should watch the wolverine documentary on netflix to learn more about them (hope it's still up) cuz they're so awesome. Not just in their sheer power and versatility, but also how closely they resemble cute pet ferrets when you watch them lol...}
